Boundary Lines: Islam with Sarah Zitterman

The latest Boundary Lines episode will discuss Islam in Shreveport with Sarah Zitterman. My thanks to Sarah and her husband, Halim, for agreeing to do the interview and for inviting me to the Islamic Center Yassin Mosque on Youree Drive for a Friday prayer meeting in April. The interview with Sarah was recorded at the Mosque where we discussed the history and theology of Islam as well as the role of women in the religion.

This episode also discusses Islam in comparison to the other Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judaism) and how it relates to them. Who is Prophet Muhammad? What role does Jesus play in Islam? Do we (the Abrahamic religions) all share the same God?

Sarah's episode with me will air on Thursdays June 5 and 12, 2008 at 6:00 PM.

Pictured above is a photo of the altar at the mosque I visited and left is a photo of Sarah and Halim.

Boundary Lines: Mormonism with Dr. Richard Bushman

Dr. Richard Lyman Bushman visited Centenary's campus on 1-6 April 2008 hosted by the Attaway Fellows of Centenary, the Christian Leadership Center and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Dr. Bushman (PhD., Harvard University) is a practicing Mormon and American Historian. He is an accomplished author of twelve books including Joseph Smith: Rough Stone Rolling (2005) winner of the Evans Biography Award, and additionally he is the Governeur Morris Professor of History emeritus at Columbia University and most recently was appointed as Howard W. Hunter Visiting Professor of Mormon Studies at Claremont Graduate University.

He is considered to be "the single most widely known and highly regarded historian of Mormonism" according to Karen Torjesen of Claremont School of Religion...

And I had the opportunity not only to do an interview for Boundary Lines with Dr. Bushman , but to discuss issues of theology inside and outside of class with Dr. Bushman thanks to my professors.

I hope that the interview conducted for Boundary Lines will be educational and answer some questions that many of us have about Mormonism.

My Boundary Lines interview with Dr. Bushman will air Thursdays April 17 and 24 between 6-8pm on 91.3 FM.

For more on Mormons and the Church go to the LDS website.

Boundary Lines: New Talk Forum Aired On KSCL

Boundary Lines is a new talk-based show I've been working on for the past year. And when I say 'been working on for the past year,' I mean I've been trying to find time to do it for the past year and been developing the direction of the show in my head.

My first episode which aired March 13 and 20 focused on Judaism in the world and in Shreveport. So I interviewed Rabbi Dr. Jana De Benedetti who is leader of the B'nai Zion Congregation in Shreveport, LA. Rabbi Jana has an extensive career which can be reviewed at her website, though most recently she has taught Hebrew and Intro to Judaism classes at Centenary College.

Boundary Lines has begun as a show that will offer open exchange of ideas and opinions. The next few episodes will focus on Faith in Shreveport. To promote interfaith understanding and dialog is my goal. I currently am a student of religious studies at Centenary College and so I choose some of these topics based on the issues I personally come in contact with.
