New Albums That Rock!

Hello Readers/Listeners,

It is us the music experts here tell you what is new, cool, and hip. We are excited to introduce these artists and their new albums here rockin' out at KSCL! Check these out!

Hellogoodbye with "Would It Kill You?"
Hellogoodbye has been flirting with the number one spot for the past three weeks. Everyone here at KSCL seems to be enjoying this album a lot. This is their sequel to "Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!" which is appropriate to the new album title "Would It Kill You?" Their sound is indie synth strong.(Zakk) : This new album is so much fun! All the songs are perfect for us ADD generation, multitasking crazies. The songs are short and simple and you gotta love this album. Reminds me of Panic at the Disco, but better. This music is very hook driven or at least for me. These tracks fit hand in hand together and you will not want to stop listening to it! (Katherine) These guys have finally found a style that really works for them instead of trying to emulate other artists. Definitely a catchy sound that's very upbeat and full of love-dovy lyrics that are far from cheesy. Their new spunky sound is super fun and yet warm and somewhat sentimental at the same time. These eleven tracks are definitely memorable and awesome!

Seth Glier with "Next Right Thing"
This album is Seth's second release. Here at KSCL, we have his first album and we played the hell out of it! We enjoyed Seth Glier's previous album and this excitement continued into his new album "The Next Right Thing". The most played track this week is "The Next Right Thing", which is a folksy chant that is a Capella. (Zakk) : This track just makes me feel amazing! I feel like I am chanting and rocking out with Seth Glier! His entire album has a nice pace to it and it keeps me hooked the whole time. Seth knows how to use those musical techniques of crescendos and decrescendos that most artists do not use in today's music. I absolutely love the album artwork. The album artwork consist of a 1950's looking office scene with the man himself (Seth) in a suit with slick back hair drinking brandy from a glass. He also has an entire panel of artwork dedicated to a type-writer. Must be important somehow. (Katherine) : Wow, this guy is really talented! For someone who looks so much like a grown up Frankie Munez, he has great depth in his music and lyrics that you don't see in many artists. This boy has a very poetic and complex idea to his lyrics that are greatly thought provoking and intriguing. He really likes for his songs to start kind of soft followed by a great rise in voices or instruments, but sometimes he really likes to quiet things down with a lone guitar and voice. Overall he has a very pop-folk feel to his music, but he likes to mix it up by using a different mix of instrumentation and vocals. He has definitely won a spot on the top 20 most played songs on the iPod of my heart.(Cheesy, but true).

Nate Currin with "Goodnight California"
Nate Currin has always had a pull to music. He started playing the piano at the age of eight. Since then, he has continued to write music as he grew up and learned the guitar on top of it. He is influenced by the British New Wave to Seveties Folk. (Zakk) : He is a very good song writer. His music reminds me of a more upbeat version of Snow Patrol. His lyrics are very creative, like my favorite song off his album called "Gypsy Girl". He mentions Passion Pit in his lyrics. It is really fun. Gotta check it out! Finally, his sound is somewhere between folk, rock, and electronic. Very creative!

Destroyer with "Kaputt"
(Trevor): Destroyer is another project courtesy of Dan Bejar, who is best known for his songwriting skills for the New Pornographers. It seems as if Bejar saves his more adventurous side for Destroyer. This new album is a pretty eccentric work that spans a huge range of musical styles. Think of sitting outside in your driveway on a really foggy morning...and Destroyer is what you will hear. (Zakk) : I was surprised when we got this album at the station. Trevor reviewed it and after he showed me this album I was going crazy for this album. I cannot believe that Destroyer is number one on our charts, but hey Trevor and I were not the only people who like Destroyer. My favorite track is "Savage Night at the Opera". The name of the track should be enough to explain why it is my fav.

Four New Albums You Are Going To Love!

Hello Listeners and Readers,

Here is the Top 4 Albums of this week that are brand new and that you need to check out now! We are the music experts (Zakk Owens, Trevor Stine, Katherine Ball). Here the albums and artists:

White Lies with "Ritual"
With their newest album, Ritual, it actually knocks up countdown this week. Here in Shreveport, White Lies was the coolest thing in 2009 when they rocked our airwaves. Overall though the United States, we were only place that liked White Lies. They are from the UK and they are number one on their charts overseas. Ritual is their second album looking to find some more success in the United States. (Zakk) : This album is one that will be in the top 100 of 2011 for KSCL. My personal favorite track is "Bigger Than Us" which is track number three on the album. Album artwork is a little weird with two twin girls on the front. Anyways, their first album was centered around the thoughts of losing love in life. This new album has taken a different turn. It is more centered around a sacred idea. Listen to the album and tell us what you think. (Katherine): Their first album really showed us how UK punk they are and they really delivered that sound. On their newer album, however, they show a softer side to their British rock/punk style. The last CD ended with a question saying "Is This The Price of Love?", and this CD seems to be the answer to that question by telling us what they think love is. To them, love can be easily lost, but just the fact that you loved at all was worth the price. (Trevor): Speaking of lies...

Shirock with "Everything Burns"
(Trevor): Everything Burns is the new hard-hitting album from Shirock. Getting their start at SXSW, Shirock has exploded on the indie scene and has seen 5 songs off of this newest album on MTV's The Hills. They are even being painted as a mini-U2, and personally, I would have to agree. This album is full of emotion in every song, which can be accredited to some awesome vocal deliveries by frontman Chuck Shirock. Throwing in some female vocals occasionally to top it all off makes for an album of overall pure greatness. (Zakk) : I would love to see this band in concert. Their album has so much energy that is very impressive. Glad to see another band from Austin, TX make to the indie rock scene.

Oh Land with "Oh Land EP"
This short EP features the song Sun of a Gun. This artist is for those listeners who enjoy dance music/electro. On the album there are remixes of the hit single. Be on the lookout for the full length album. (Zakk) : I love this EP. It is as if ABBA and Ace of Base had a baby and that baby decided to make dance music just like its parents and it became very successful. I think "Sun of a Gun" should be played at every frat house here on campus! Are you sick of the same music being played every week at the frat houses then request Oh Land. Only losers live in the past, so listen to Oh Land! (Katherine): This EP is definitely a winner. It really brings a great sound to the electro-pop world, both appropriate for the dance floor and for just waving your hands and singing along in the car on your way to her concert! (Trevor): I think she's pretty...I want....her hair.

Details Details with "Details Details"
This band has found themselves in Top 30 for three weeks in a row. For those who like Owl City and Innerpartysystem, you will dig Details Details. "Zoned Out", "Providential", and "Dissemble" are the top tracks on the album. (Zakk) : I am very impressed with Details Details. Their sound is just awesome. I am always shock when I listen to this EP because the artwork is nothing like the band's sound. The EP artwork is a little cheesy, but I predict for this band to be on stations around the U.S. in no time. (Katherine) : The first look at their album artwork and you think, "Wow, cheesy computer nerd music!". It's true, the cover does look like a nerd had a slight obsession with the original Mario, but his sound is very modern and catchy, much like Owl City and Innerpartysystem. Seth Williams...I will get zoned out with you any time if you would just sing to me! (Trevor): Ditto.

New Music That the Music Experts Know!

Hey Readers,

We (Zakk Owens,Trevor Stine, and Katherine Ball) are the music experts of KSCL and we are going to tell you what is going down in the new rack and countdown.

1)La Resistance with "Philosophy"
We definitely suggest this new album to our readers/listeners. Trevor Stine loves this new album and wants to see it do good on the countdown for the weeks to come. (Trevor Stine): La Resistance hails from Birmingham and has that great chill-pop feel that we all dig here at the station. The album brings in a lot of issues that lead vocalist, Greg Summerlin, was going through with his record label and modern society at the time, so the lyrics really have the potential to resonate with a lot of people.

2) Daft Punk with "TRON: Legacy Soundtrack"
This soundtrack has smashed up our countdowns. This album found itself at the number one spot for the second week in a row. (Zakk Owens) : Even though TRON: Legacy was not the best movie of the year, the soundtrack on the other hand is super awesome. With the leading single "Derezzed", it can definitely get you into a fighting, aggressive mood. I have personally decided to make it my ringtone for this week, so it must be good. This electrifying soundtrack will have you lit for days, humming the melodies and beat til you drive your friends wild. Cannot wait to find out if Daft Punk will continue to break the number one spot on our Top 30? Who knows?

3) Ian Axel with "This Is The New Year"
What an awesome name for an album! Ian Axel is climbing higher on the Top 30 every week on the countdown. Ian has been compared to Elliot Smith, Ben Kweller, and even Ben Folds. (Katherine Ball): Although most have heard that piano heavy song from more than one artist, Ian Axel balances his piano led songs with different sounds on the keyboard and keeps true to his folkish pop sound. He has a great balance of melancholy and happy making you feel that whatever pain was bothering you before doesn't quite matter. His cute and catchy melodies make you want to whistle them through the rain because of their carefree sound. (Zakk Owens) : I love this artist. His catchy melodies definitely stick in my head all day and night and possibly to the next day. Love him.

4) Cage The Elephant with "Thank You Happy Birthday"
This is Cage The Elephant's sophomore album. This album definitely continues that nuance sound that listeners have learn to love and appreciate. (Trevor) : This is by far my favorite album of the month I would have to say. "Thank You Happy Birthday" shows so much growth for the band from their debut album, "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked." You can really tell that their influences have multiplied, and it has definitely been for the better. This album has the same catchy vocal style as the Cage The Elephant we all love, similar to Colour Revolt or even old-school Mewithoutyou. Overall: A + for this one, friends. (Katherine Ball) : Although their song "Ain't No Rest For the Wicked" was definitely very memorable and one of my favorites, overall their CD was somewhat disappointing. This latest CD, however, has a more mature and less experimental sound that still holds true to their individual sound. (Zakk Owens) A very mature sound from their previous album. Sophomore slumps? No way!

5) One Step Away with "One Step Away"
These kids find themselves on our countdown at number 13 this week. Hopefully number 13 will be their lucky number this week for them to continue their success on the countdown. (Zakk) : Their sound is a boy band sound. For all you girls out there, this is your band. With this whole album centered around one subject, love, it kind makes those people who are lonely, hurt more. For those love birds out there, this is your album. I am guessing from listening to this album that the boy members are already taken. Sorry Katherine... (Katherine) : When first listening to this CD you expect it to sound like a bunch of love drunk teens trying to find a way into a girl's heart, but their surprisingly mature sound and strong vocals are anything but. Though the lyrics are nothing too new, they still show you the sweet side of these boys who want to share their experiences and perhaps find help for those who have been hurt by love.

6) Sick Of Sarah with "2205"
This is Sick Of Sarah's sophomore album here at the station. This albums is incredibly better album from their first. (Zakk Owens) : I loved Sick Of Sarah and now I might propose. These women know how to rock! I was very upset though that the album was only 10 tracks. Their sound from their previous album has changed to a darker more controlled sound. Their first album was more experimental than this one. Love it, love it! This is for those people who love rockin' girl bands or people who are just sick of, well.... Sarahs. lol. j/k.
