Failure in a Few Ways

I'm a bad, bad Station Manager. I don't update this blog nearly enough. I could give a lot of excuses, one being that I'm still settling into my dual life as student and manager extraordinaire. Honestly, I just can't find time to sit down and blog and when I do have time, I'm always doing a hundred different things I need to be doing. But here it is, the long awaited Thanksgiving Break! I have time, finally. But I also have something to blog about...

Monday November, 24th, 2008 KSCL will be off-air. Don't freak out. Centenary is doing work on electrical conduits (what that mean, no one really knows) so power will be out for most of the campus. No one is clear how long these repairs will last, but there is a possibility that the power will still be out on Tuesday. Unfortunately there's nothing much we can do other than wait it out.

We've dealt with power outages before (both expected and unexpected) and luckily we've had more than a days notice this time. Unfortunately, it's hard to get word out to the listeners. I know we'll probably get a million phone calls (that no one, including the answering machine, will answer).

Now, I can promise to update more regularly, or I can promise to keep the station trucking along. In all honesty, I can make sure I can do the latter. The former, I'll try. Please don't hurt me!

KSCL Update: Internal Musings

I wanted to push this information to the outside. For those keeping up, I spoke to the Student Government last Tuesday to give updates on the Station. In the first part I ran through what's happened since I took charge and what we're planning for the future. The simple answer to both these topics is pure growth. KSCL has grown so much. I'm very proud to be a part of KSCL, especially when KSCL's history is leading it into a very exciting future.

In "part deux" I transition into the spending of student fees for media and other organizations. I believe that KSCL deserves a larger "slice" of that pie. When around $115,000 comes in every semester from student fees, it only seems right to reward the growing organizations with more money; cutting money from the stagnant. The senate was very receptive and I am extremely hopeful for the future. There's more on the conglomerate's site. So, this is where we are now: a hopeful future, but a very poor summer.

Phase 3 is Schleuss writing for grants, kicking underwriting into gear, and finding someplace to live (hopefully on campus!). Stay tuned!

Centenary's Paper Now Online

Anyone wanting an exclusive look at Centenary's student-run newspaper now has a chance at theccconglomerate.com. Versha Sharma, the Conglomerate's editor, is thrilled to put the paper online. The rest of the school will be thrilled once they wake up to the location of the site. The site launched officially today. Beyond offering features, arts & entertainment, sports, and opinion sections, the site also includes handy Digg and Facebook sharing links.

Any visitor can view the website and read articles. Also, anyone can post comments and create an account. There's a "Classifieds" and "Message Board" section for anyone to post relevant Centenary information. This could be a great tool for anyone wishing to reach a large number of Centenary students for free. Post a note in the Classifieds. Comment on the articles. The site encourages interaction between readers.

-a personal note-
I'm thrilled that another Centenary medium has made its way into the digital space known as the internet. It was a lot of work getting KSCL's blog and podcast going in the late summer of '07 and now the paper's online. This is great for the Shreveport community and allows another medium to reach outside of Centenary's -somewhat- closeted campus. Enjoy it!
